Macadamia Nuts – Welcome to the New Season

Thank you for letting me provide my product to you. I appreciate your business and look forward to continuing to serve you in this new season.

I now have a great crop of my own ‘Grown in Puna’ Macadamia Nuts. It has been a challenge for over the last several months to find high-quality nuts from other farms but I am currently harvesting from my own Pohoiki farm and will only be shipping nuts grown here. As always, the nuts are pesticide free and fertilized organically.

I am working to improve the yield in my orchard to better keep up with demand. That will give me much better control of quality as well as allow me to ship more nuts. Farming in a rainforest here means that a big loss of nuts is due to wild pigs being able to get into the orchard. I am planning on fencing the property to stop that and I will also be doing more orchard maintenance as well as feeding the trees. I have been trying to keep down costs but all of this means that there is a small price increase of 5 % coming up.

I will be taking some time off at the end of October. It is my first vacation in almost two years and I am looking forward to spending some time on the mainland. I will be leaving in late October and returning in mid-November so I expect to process all of your orders prior to leaving and just shut everything down for the time that I’m gone.

Many thanks to all of you who have sent pictures of your birds! What beautiful creatures they are. Please keep them coming and look for them on the web page as I will try to keep updating the photos there.

I have a large supply of smaller nuts available for sale at a reduced price (30 % off listed prices). From now on, the extra nuts that I have been including free of charge with the order will be the small variety. This way, you can find out if your birds like them and if you want to take advantage of our offer.

Mahalo for taking the time to read my letter

FAQ’s

Q:  When is Macadamia Nut season?
A:  The season in the Puna District of Hawaii, begins between June and August and ends in January.

Q:  How can I be assured that I can always purchase nuts even out of season?
A:  Nuts are harvested in the different districts of Hawaii at different times, however, there is a possibility that either no nuts or very few nuts are available at a given time. When this happens the highest bidder gets the crop.

Q: When is the best time to buy?
A:  The best time to purchase nuts is in the middle of the season between September and November. Buying during this time will ensure the best overall quality of nuts.

Q: What is an immature nut?
A: An immature nut is one that has fallen off the tree too early. The kernel is smaller but may be sweeter due to the higher sugar content and is fine to eat.

More Information:

The size of the nut has nothing to do with its quality. The size depends on the variety of the tree, fertilizing and weather. In general the smaller nuts often taste sweeter than their bigger relatives.

Storage:
The nuts are shipped fresh. You will receive the nuts in a cardboard box. Open the box and remove the nuts from the box and store the nuts in a cool and ventilated location. If you stir them up occasionally and store them properly they will not mold.
